Alloy inlet with hif44 is the spec for most mg metro engines Might have the big valve head on it too

It's not an MG Metro engine.... it's a Police Spec engine, which will normally depend on what its being used for...looking at the parts book there is no difference between this and a standard 1300 metro engine.

If it's been in a cop car it will have been ragged to within an inch of its life but well serviced lol. Bit like hire cars.

Werent police spec engines the same as a cooper S? Thought I remember reading something about the police using cooper S because it was almost the fastest car that was affordable etc etc

Nah.... Police Spec just means that they may be used for a specific purpose.... The same as there was a Specification for the Post Office (Royal Mail)

For example, a dog van

There weren't many (if any) police pursuit Metro's

When you talk about big pursuit vehicles then that is a different matter altogether.

Thanks for all the info, its painted red and it looks a factory paint finish, and with the hif and alloy inlet, thought I might have a good spec engine, its on std. bore with no wear ridge at all!! Im going to rebuild it over the winter anyway. Still a bargain at 120 Quid!! Cheers Mart.( What do I need to change to fit in my 72 mini?)

shame, it would be hilarious to see a copper trying to keep up with stolen Rs turbos, CBR1000s and the like in a metro! That would be a YouTube video worth watching.
