Hi all
I have a thin yellow tube not connected to anything on my spi.
It seems like a brown pipe comes from under the air filter, it then joins to the yellow one that lies near the top of the air filter but isn't connected.
The car seems to run ok.

Any ideas??

it should connect to under the filter (beside the brown (which is actually red)) and on the top of the filter.

Ok thanks. So it needs connecting to the top.
That's ace. Thanks :-)

I went to connect it up this morning. Firstly it wouldn't fit, but more importantly it's been blocked off with some putty in the end.
I've only had the car since sept.

Why would it have been blocked off??

not sure why it has been blocked of. I can't remember correctly, but I think the yellow one is used to pull air towards the air temp sensor and the red pipe uses a vacuum from the inlet manifold to open a flap to allow the air for the yellow pipe to get to the temp sensor. I am not sure how important all this really is.

Ideally with the standard filter in place you should have this pipe connected.

Though cars fitted with a after market filter, remove the yellow pipe and block the end pif the red line.

I was given an induction filter when I bought it which I think had been fitted at some point so maybe from then.
I'll get a new pipe and see what changes it makes.
Thanks guys

The yellow pipe just operates a flap in the air box intake pipe. It's so that when the car is cold, the flap closes and air is drawn in from underneath that pipe, which sits on a metal bracket attached to the exhaust manifold and heats the air. Once the engine warms up, the flap closes and air enters via the front of the pipe as normal.

It will have neglible effect on running in relation to warm  / cold air, however if the yellow pipe was lying disconnected it could provide a vacuum leak when the engine is cold and vacuum is acting on the pipe. This is likely why the pipe end is blocked off.
