Just a thought really, how much does the lad quickshift reduce the throw?

I'm not looking to make the shift faster because I know you can't make it faster anyway, just make the throw feel a bit more modern

It reduces it enough for you to get the wrong gears.

Can't see why you commented, not what I asked

You can't. Then you will not notivpce that the cross gate is stupidly tight. The longitudinal 1-2 is acceptable but 1-3 is just too much. Unfortunately you can't change one without changing the other.

I just loath them.

I haven't tried the KAD one, but i have fitted the Mini Spares version, a few of them now.

Takes about 4 or 5 shifts to get used to and you do have to really lift them up VERY high to select reverse (though a 'nick' on the grinder fixes that), but I LOVE them big time

Like you, I've not fitted them to got racing with, but just reduce the throw of the stick.

<Edit: one thing I do do with them though when fitting is to drill & tap 2 additional holes / screws. The extension cap on these only fits with 2 screws where the stock bayonet cap fits) and wobbles a little. The screws I add in are fore and aft>

The actual throw is reduced by about 40% (from memory). They are a bit like 'Marmite' - you love it or hate it. I had a KAD one a while back in an SPI my wife used briefly. I quite liked it, but she didn't. The guy who bought it changed it for a standard shift as he hated it. It is easy to miss a gear until you are well used to it.
