Hi I have a single seater racing car that I am currently working on, when I have finished the rebuild on the car I'm going to look for a classic mini to restore. The car is a Global GT Light, it is being converted to run a turbocharged fireblade engine producing around 260hp.Anyway I need some advice from some mini owners as the driveshaft's used on the global are from a classic mini. I know someone who can make the actual drive shafts out of something strong enough to take the abuse I want to put through them but I'm unsure of what the difference between the joints are on the hub side anyone got any pointers so I can work out wich ones too order

thanks for any advice

Inboard there are two spine patterns and out board there is just one.

So pot joint or hardy spicer/cross type?

pot joint type, the driveshaft's are 287mm in length if that helps I had a look on mini spares but can't work out wich one I need to order on the hub side

thanks for the link Leon but my budget doesn't quite stretch that far I think I can build a set just as strong for less than that if I can work out wich hub joint to order

Ok so you have two drive shafts of the same length?

Minis have unequal length shafts. So it will be a custom order.

yes nick im using two equal length shafts on the car. the shafts I can get made easy enough, i'm presuming the pot joints are a one size fits all job so i'm just stuck with the hub side as i'm unsure of the differences between them

Hub side all the same if using Mini CVs. Even the bigger CVs have the same spline patten as far as I am aware.

So not really sure what you are asking as you know the length and the spline patterns you are using.

I have been told the hub side of the cv joints are different for the 850-998 and the 1275s I'm trying to work out which ones i'm using and what the difference is

With the outer ends (hub) The differences are in the actual cv joint, the drum brake models have a small shaft where it goes through hub (and doesn't hold wheel on), the disc bracket ones are bigger and hold the hub and wheel on. Both the drum and disc versions have the same spline set up where the actual axle fits in.
On to inner ends theres 2 types of splined sections, one is similar to outer, with a clipped on cv (pot) joint, the other is a sliding shaft with either a proper uni joint or a rubber cross u bolted in. (Rubbish in high HP car)
Possibly there's some one near you that may have some of both examples fo you to look at.

Pads depends on useage. In my GTM (Mini engine in the rear) hillclimb car I just had standard front pads both ends as I wanted something that would work from cold. And in hillclimbing the brakes don't get that hot.
