My name is Daniel, I'm a young design engineer and car enthusiast! I have owned NA, Turbocharged and Supercharged cars but now it is time to buy the car I've allways wanted... A 1275 Mini. I am looking to go on to a carburettor engine and I'm unclear on exactly what years and models I should be looking for?
I am looking to make the car my own and upgrade to twin carbs etc to obtain the most power out of the 1275 engine, I understand 1380 and 1340cc engines would be the best way to go but I would like to stick to the 1275 as I want to work to a reasonable budget.
All and any information would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Dan

hi, I think the most important thing to look out for in any mini is body work. try not to limit yourself to a specific model or year, just try and get the best car you can for your money, if the body is good then it makes it a lot easier :)
As for engines, i'm not the best to ask as mines still an original 998 and i dont know that much about it, but from what i've been told 1275 are quite desirable so tend to be a little more expensive?????

Welcome to TMF.
People get hung up on engine size. 1380 can be expensive as the bores need to be off set to keep the gap between cylinders 2-3 big enough so that reliability isn't compromised.
In reality, a well ported head and a good cam will give a nice drivable car.
What will you be using the car for? That's the first decision that needs to be made before deciding on spec.
As above, buy the car with the best bodywork you can find, everything else is easier to fix, but avoid bodge jobs, oversills, etc.
Have a look through the projects section, minis usually rust in the same places so you'll soon know where to look
