Hi;

I managed to damage my Windscreen with Grinding Sparks, did a post about it here. I have placed an ad in the wanted section here but no takers as yet.

Anyway I may have the option of a second hand screen locally, eBay, the guy is willing to accept £25 but before I buy it can I ask:

1. Is that a good price - I think so?

2. Is there anything I need to check (Apart from cracks of course).

3. Are all windscreens interchangeable? It was advertised as an Austin Mini Front Windscreen, I have a 1982 Austin HLE 1000 but how do I check its correct before taking it?

Thanks in advance

All will fit. Some were laminated ( good) some were not (nothing wrong with them) laminated can start to go milky on the edges if moisture get between the glass and plastic (bad).

Or just put a claim into your insurance and get it all done on that.

Sadly I am in North Devon so collection is out of the question, shame at £35 for a new windscreen :-(

So it will fit then, cool, thanks.

Do I need to check for a BS Kite Mark or a Manufacturers Part No?

Minispares ones come very well packaged. Not a problem at all with mine. Finding some where for all the cardboard was an issue :-)

Thanks for all the advice on getting a new one, greatly appreciated and may come in handy.

I have just collected a freebie from Coxie (Big thanks), its got a largeish chip in the bottom LH corner (passenger side) most of which is covered by the rubber seal and could be further sealed with some Silicone? I have even considered filling the chip with epoxy resin? and sanding it down so that it sits even with the seal?

Anyway we are going to give this one a go and see how we get on.

Secondhand old style toughened screens should be avoided. If a stone hits them you lose most of your visibility when the screen shatters, a laminated screen just chips or cracks and you can continue on your journey until convenient to replace it.

I doubt you can buy a toughened screen under modern safety laws, they were lethal years ago if anybody was not wearing a seat belt and hit the screen, their head goes through and neck meets jagged edges of the hole in the glass!...............a laminated screen at least bulges out with an impact due to the plastic layer in the middle and therefore contains occupants inside the car.
