my heater motor doesn't work, i have tried it over battery and it spins if i give it  a little push. I have tried to pub it up and that has helped.

Haynes says that these cannot be rebuilt. Surely they can...

Has any one successfully repaired one?

take a look on eBay, I have got a replacement for my Capri one for £40 as opposed to £165 for a genuine Bosch one. It is identical in size and works perfectly.

Or get a decent second hand one......

Have you tried the serial number? The one I got was listed for a Merc. I am not sure if the mini ones (Smiths?) were used in anything else or not but I bet they were.

Does it wobble about, suggesting the bearings are shot? If not it might just be the brushes. If you can get to them ebay has plenty to choose from and, being carbon, they're easy to modify.

Screen%20Shot%202015-04-25%20at%2021.55.

I guess the motor you posted is for an earlier mini.

I never knew the changed, new fangled   injection cars  >_<

At least it'll be easier to find a single header, As Clive says, it's quite likely it's not unique to Min's - worth trying a google images search with that piccy, or check out Rover cars of the same era?

It's also worth trying to get the motor out, the motor itself may well have a prt number you can track down and it's bound to be cheaper than the whole unit.

I have just partly stripped a heater motor that wasn't spinning at all, cleaned it, and now it spins. I can't say it spins as fast as a new one but ...

From memory it's just a few screws, a couple of clips, and the impellers are push fit. If you're any good at figuring how things come apart it's very simple.
I think I needed a squirt of Plusgas somewhere along the line, but that was it. No specialist tools.

The hardest bit was getting the plastic impellers off the motor shaft. It took a lot of force and without thinking about how you're pulling it, I guess it would be relatively easy to distort them. But it's simple to do with a little thought.
The hinged clips that keep the armature in took quite a bit of force to push back into place.
It's worth noting which impeller goes on which end of the spindle, which wire connects to which terminal and which way round the armature goes as it would be relatively ease to get these reversed.

An alternative I've considered, is making one.
I reckon a couple of decent axial cooling fans for computers would do the job, and there are cheap matrices on eBay. It wouldn't be difficult to fold up a box out of sheet aluminium. (I think I find a "How to" in the Car Builder Solutions catalog, though I can't see it on my phone right now. It's really just a box and you could easily modify the Mini heater casing to take different fans. (Just make sure they're 12v)

Hope that helps.

There is a gentleman by the name of Ashley Hinton that advertises on Ebay.

His company manufactures motors for old Smiths heater motors (amongst other things) for various classic cars. Could he perhaps help you with regard to replacing the motor in your heater?
