Hello

Having trouble starting mini - the mini worked fine but slight rough running at high revs so I thought I'd have a go re doing the distributor and timing but got caught on the oil pipe o took it out and back in and had to move the ht leads for size reasons and now i can start the car but with a tractor noise and now power at All as if they wern't all firing .....

Thought I was the leads but tried putting them I the order as explained in the manuel but even worse !! Doesn't turn on at all..... I'm stuck ! Very stuck !!

It might be that your dizzy is 180 degrees out, so by you putting the ht leads on in the sequence shown in the manual would now be wrong

Yes my dizzy was 180° out, took it out, and followed the haynes manuel on how to set the dizzy spindle the right way, then the dizzy it self and then followed the correct order for the ht leads. starting at TDC n°1 with the rotor arm pointing in the right direction. Everything as it should be : Result = mis fires, horrible noise just not right !!!!

I've always had problems with the distributor, and following the correct way. So i put it back the wong way with the little part of the spindle upwards and the rotor arm at TDC point the opposite way, and then put the ht leads as if it was the correct way and it worked !!

how can this work ? it works fine now but nothing like the manuel ......... My mini surprises me more than anything else !!!!

Remember that no1 cylinder is the radiator end. I got caught out by this when I was new to Minis, just assumed they were numbered left to right!

Yes i read that, no problems there, just think i might have set something wrong back when i took the engine apart to rebuild, possible to and put the timing chain / camshaft wrong .... it's back on the road and sounding good so hopfully will be fine :)
