The last time I used my mini I had to pull over and let it cool down after 10 mins of driving it because the temp guage went through the roof,
the engine wasn't hot but I could hear and feel the water boiling/bubbling away in the tank/top pipe
One thing I did notice was the fan didn't cut in. I know I need to test that first tonight by bridging the connector, but was wondering it it was more serious?
Ive read that I may need a new thermostat or rad cap? worth changing too?
Another thing to note it that Ive recently notice a change in the exhaust note, its a bit more burbly, would this be a sign or a blown head gasket?
The mini is a 98 cooper.

Temp Gauge Goes Through The Roof After 10 Mins?

Thanks for your reply, Im more of an Aircooled beetle guy so dont really know were to start with a mini.
Although after some reading my thoughts would be the thermostat, Ive ordered an 88 one this morning.
Hope it's a simple fix. I'll report my finding later
I'll take off the old one tonight and have a butchers.
Cheers

If you're taking the thermostat housing off take it easy when undoing and refitting the three bolts, as they have tendency to rust into the head. When putting it back together would suggest putting a decent amount of grease of copper grease on bolt thread, then next time you need to take it out will be easy...

I've had a similar issue yesterday.
Car started running a bit rough also....... what it turned out to be was one of my carb's piston was stuck. This greatly leaned out the mix. A lean mix will bring your engine temp up.
One of the simplist fixes I've had......... Tap the side of the one carb....fixed.
( yes, I will look further in to it later )
