Hi everyone,
Was needing a little bit of advice I'm wanting to change my standard exhaust and remove the catalyst I was thinking of putting on a lcb with a 2 inch preformance system (centre exit)does anyone have any experience of doing this, is 2inch to big? What's the best set up any help before I commit to buying would be great.. Thanks

You could keep the standard down pipe, as its not too restrictive, then get a de-cat with an RC40 system.

As Alex says, but keep the cat so you can put it back on for MOT test otherwise you will fail on emissions.

It's actually the front pipe that has gone/blowing and the rest of the exhaust doesn't look much better Alex to be honest

Maniflow do a SPI down pipe/flexi, then get a maniflow de-cat, then which ever RC40/sports exhaust you want, they will all be good enough for any road car!

I've got a spi lcb on mine with a 1.65" exhaust (Playmini I think). I've kept the CAT for MOt purposes, but there is a decat pipe section available. Was always advised not to go any bigger than 1.65" for power and noise purposes.

Good luck with it.

I've read a few articles that say that the standard injection down pipe is actually quite good, and that there is not much advantage to going LCB on these cars. Also I have read that the CAT, unless blocked or collapsing is only good for about 1hp restriction. If it was me, I would just fit a standard replacement front pipe and also retain the CAT. It's not just MOT time you need to consider, what about if you get pulled by VOSA?

I just read a lot about the exhaust on our Minis. The Cat as well as the standard exhaust manifold both flow extremely well. Only a few HP gain there and only at the very top of the rev range.

That said, the cat-back can be improved on. Calver did some serious testings on this and one of the biggest wastes of money is over doing it. The RC40 is still THE best performing exhaust going. Bigger isnt better. Remember that. Actually, the larger diameter RC40 gives less HP's then the standard units they sell.

I have the Maniflow LCB (with Lambda port) and Cat delete (I am in the US and dont need it so I removed to save) and they both fit wonderfully.

The exhaust on my car has a manifold and front pipe(single) that clamp together, when I've been looking on the internet for spi exhausts they show a 3 bolt flange type manifold with a 2 into 1 down pipe with a flexi section and 2 bolt flange to the CAT, I would be quite happy with this set up! Is this spi set up or mpi.. Thanks again guys

Maybe there is a differnece for SPi cars with they are Coopers or not. That I'm not sure of. My car is a Cooper SPi and has the manifold where a two-pipe downpipe bolts to. They then merge into one pipe at a braided SS flex joint. Adding an LCB will help a tiny bit with power over the setup I just described. If your car has a single downpipe, changing to this twin pipe setup would be a nice little improvement and with all the people out there that have put on LCBs, I'd imagine there HAS to be a few out there for sale.

I didn't realise that there was a cooper spi, I was thinking maybe a previous owner may have put it on as a cheap alternative..! I think I will go down the route you've suggested, like you say there is proberbly plenty about cheers

No prob. I have a full setup but and over here in the US. By the way, this is worth a read through. Gives VERY good info, just no pix.
