Hi

I know in the past that it used to be possible to get a list of previous registered keepers from the DVLA, we got a copy from the DLVA with paddy and the justification at the time was that it was a rare and usual car and it the information would be to trace the vehicles history.

Has anyone successfully managed to get one more recently, the list of reasons given where they will provide the information seem to be a lot stricter now?

I'm sure this will be a data protection nightmare for them.

I'm not sure Id want them handing my details out to someone who's bought one of my previous cars.

If its the v888 form your talking about then ive just had all the info back on "tiny"
This includes where he was first registered including all the previous keepers details , ive done this for all my vehicles as i find it interesting especially the historic vehicles. All i ever put on the form is full restoration so i hope they understand why i want the info .....

Thanks, I have heard mixed reports about whether the DVLA will respond to V888 requests so that's helpful to know.

I tried once when i had sold a car but not retained the new keepers address.

I found the service book, spare key and some paperwork for it and wanted to pass it on. They turned me down when i asked for the details.

I suppose you would have more luck as the owner asking than as a previous owner asking though

Ben

If you are the current owner the DVLA will reveal all previous owner history details......however they will not reveal the current ownership of a car you once previously owned or have never owned before without a good reason....... like an accident damage incident or an abandoned car type of reason, due to data protection policy.

Do you just bung a check for a fiver in with the V888, is that how it's still done...? I'm thinking of doing it for my two classics - I already know who the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th owners of my Mini are but not the first three. Likewise with my '73 Jag I'm missing two of its five owners from the otherwise well documented history file.

Cheers ;-)

I've done it a couple recently and yes, send a fiver and the form and you get copies of all of the previous logbooks. I have just written that I want the info for my records but you can only do it like that if you are the registered keeper of the vehicle at the time.

One of the best fivers I have spent, just got the history back from the DVLA and turns out the first keeper owned our car for 46 years!
