Hi Guys I was given my 1987 Austin city 2 yrs ago, but due to finances I was unable to get any work done on her, but now the time has come to sort her out and get her rolling for summer. You will have to forgive my lack of knowledge as I ask my 1st of probably many questions, should she have 10 or 12" wheels, she has 10 but I have been told that 87's should have 12". I'm confused already and I'm not even blonde :-)

Welcome along LouLou1971!

Glad to hear that your mini is going to get some love. Questions are what this forum is for so if you have any, just post them up in the relevant section and fire away.

As for your first question, an 87 City would have originally had 8.4" disc brakes on the front and spacered drums on the rear and then a set of 12" steel wheels with plastic centre caps.

As you have 10" wheels then the front brakes will have been changed for the smaller 7.5" or 7.9" brakes which is a popular modification using either a set of early cooper brakes or one of the kits available from mini parts suppliers.

If you get a moment, pop up some pictures of your car, i would love to see it.

Cheers

Ben

Nice looking car. I like the black and red.

Blow the tyres up, it'll make it easier to move around

Certainly needs some love but it looks good and solid.

What are your plans for it?

Ben

I love the colours and her wheels, just need to get her up to scratch enough to pass an MOT then the real work begins. Just had all the brakes refitted, electrics to test next, luckily the engine is sound. But silly me lost the ignition key so I need to grind the old one off and refit one that was kindly donated to me. And yes I'm known as Lou Lou, just with out the year :-)
