Hey!

I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get around the dashboard getting loose? My dashboard is tightly fasten at the bottom with the 3 bolts but the top brackets are useless.

If I push against the dash when it vibrates it stops, I just need some way of getting it fastened tighter so it stops rattling.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

It might help to put the anti rattle strip round it if you haven't got it. Mine was rattling and it was the holding brakets rattling on dash frame, I took them out and put rubber on ends.

The central top clip may not be catching, also helps for someone to push the desk in as far as you can while you tighten the nuts up

Does anyone have a solution to the loose dashboard problem? I was thinking about making up some brackets to be secured on the top and bottom rail like the aftermarket dashes come with. The ones with the wing nuts for example.

I had a similar issue with my Cooper S. I removed the dash, bent the brackets up a little more then refitted. Solved the issue.

The plastic brackets are terrible on the MPI dash. They have just lost strength over the years and now cant hang on.

As someone that has done this to their own cooper sports - The clips are plastic. The brackets are metal. I removed the clips and bent the brackets to add more sprung tension to the top of the dash.

+1 - on my Cooper Sport, the brackets had come away from the wood rear of the dash, pulling the self tappers out, and causing slack / ill fitting.

My dad knocked up some metal support brackets to attach to the wood, then the original brackets to be fixed to, problem solved, nice tight fitting dash.
