Hi all,

As always need some advice please on the following;

What is the sealant you might be able to see on the rear quarter panel and waist rail ? was it applied before or after being spot welded ? is it necessary ?

Secondly is it best to joggle the rear quarter panel or butt weld when replacing and where's the best place to cut and join please

P.S is this too many spot welds on the sills ??

I'm not sure that is sealant. looks to me like old waxoil residue. I had it on mine too.

 

When you put the new panel on, all there is any need for between the flanges is some zinc weld thru primer.

 

As for the spot welds, possibly a bit overkill but it won't be an issue.

 

I would but weld the joins on the B and C pillars as they are only short sections so not much chance of distortion and the join will be no weaker than a lap joint but much easier.

Mmm shouldn't be any sealant on the waist rail, maybe some on the bottom of the quarter panel to sill joint. And as Ben has said butt weld the B and C pillars.
