Hi forum ,bought my second mini on the 30/04/15 the 1st was 40 years ago when I just needed and car now the second is because I need something to do, I picked up a 1984 Mayfair and started to do the preparatory strip and noticed that when I took the sun roof out the whole roof destabilized my thoughts were that it was a bad DIY job or is it a common factor ? I did notice that there was no strengthening bar mid point on the roof  ! Any comments or thoughts

Hi and welcome to TMF. When an aftermarket sunroof is fitted the roof does loose some of its properties, ie it starts to deform. Once the sunroof is refitted it regains its shape. There are no strengthening ribs of any kind in the roof so very very flexible and easy to distort.
