The spot lights should only illuminate with the main beam on, and a separate switch to turn the spotlights on/off. You will also need a switch activated light, or a switch with a LED light to let the driver know the spotlights are switched on, Legally. I've wired mine on a separate circuit, with a switch and relay. :shy:  :proud:

While I think the separate switch is a nice idea, it's not a legal requirement. My factory standard cooper MPi has no switch. The spots just come on with main (ie undipped) beam. Regular dipped beam, they should be off.

Got my toggle switch from Maplin. I wanted a metal one really, but it looks good TBF. It also has a LED at the end. Sounds god awful by my description, but it fits in with the rest of the interior. :D

A tell tale lamp is not a legal requirement for spot lights / driving lamps.

Legally they must be wired to switch with main beam, but they absolutely must not be wired straight into the existing main beam wiring or you may lose the car to a fire. They must be wired through a relay.

Fair enough. I always thought you needed a warning light. :shy:
