Identify Of This Engine

Best Answer Guess-Works.com , 11 May 2015 - 08:34 PM

That's a 998 engine out of a late 60's early 70's mini.

You'll not be making a 13 anything out of that.

Ive seen this engine for sale the seller is unsure what it is , wondering if anyone can tell as it was in an old guys shed who was a car enthusiast
, am I right in thinking the gear box on the older engines are better than the newer type when building a fast road engine (1330)

Well the gearbox is a remote change, so it is a bit better located and won't need extra engine steadies. It'll most likely be 3 sycnro. The gear ratios and diff ratio are unknown till you can get the gearbox number, but they could have been changed inside since new anyway. You'd have to get it apart to see if it's worth using or not...

The later gearboxes were more robust that the older ones. The remote is desirable because it keeps the engine from moving about but if you're after performance you'd be better off finding an a+ box. More aftermarket gear available and more boxes around.
