Im not sure what nut it is but its this one....20150516_174045_zpscinms8pa.jpg

i have used a torsion bar and only succeded in lifting myself up on the garbox because i cant get leverage.

I then went and got myself an air compressor thinking i can air wrench it off and even at full setting the air compressor fails to budge it!!!

Using a torque wrench on 170lb also just clicks to 170lb and does not budge it.

Any other ideas to get it off!!!????

Cheers se

What I did was turn the box upside down and bolt it to my bench. I then got a 10" extension bar and a piece of 6" x 2" timber through which I drilled a hole big enough to take the extension bar (Hole drilled at the same height as the pinion nut) The timber is there purely to support the extension bar, it  rests on the bench end on with the bar going through it. Attach a breaker bar and if necessary an extension tube to increase leverage. Made the job a lot easier and a bit safer though take care if using a extension tube. Hope that makes sense.

Lower a car onto the gearbox - not so there is any weight on the gearbox but so that the gearbox can't rotate if you see what I mean. Make sure that the gearbox and sill of the car are adequately protected. Then use a breaker bar with scaffold tube if necessary.

The nut is tightened to 200nm normally. I always ask 2 People to stand on it or its impossible to undo

I read about the standing on the box etc... Mine came off really easy though. My relatively unmanly 14.4v impact gun buzzed it off in no time!

Unusual how some are a problem others arent... Bit like pulling flywheels off I suppose. Inconsistent levels of success
