Idle mixture should remain constant for the MOT, if its stalling it weak, mines set at 3% and has no MOT Issues

Mine is set at 10degs at idle with the vacuum off and plugged and 3% co on a gas analyser and with a 276 cam passes the MOT with no issues, if you have a high HC reading with those settings then they will retest it at 2000rpm and take another reading, or the garages that understand how to test older cars will.

Hard to say bud,as I could only drive down my side road which is small before,as I had not mot etc.
I was told it was setup at Slack racing, but then why would it fail a mot for being to rich. You could smell the fumes from the exhaust before, that it was really running rich.

Sorry to bring it back up,but as i have not made any adjustments yet,and do not want to mess with the timing again for now, will it be ok to just turn the mixture screw in a bit to richen it up before i can get it set up correctly after checking the needle etc.

What if any, can running it weak or rich for that matter, affect the engine....Cheers again Olly
