I have drove the mini a couple of times now, since having a Mot,which originally failed on emissions. The garage had to do some messing with the timing, maybe carb also to get it to pass.

When accelerating in 1st gear, its as if i need to floor it,as it gives the impression its going to stall with a spluttering type sound to it.Once i give it a load of revs/acceleration  it all seems ok. I am still running the engine in,so do not really want to hammer it in 1st gear.

Its a 1275 with + 0.20 overbore stage 4 head and a 276 cam fitted,with lcb into straight pipe,1 silencer box at the back.(Loud)

Cheers Olly

Does it do the same if you pull the choke out?

What needle is in the carb? possible that altering the mixture and timing to get it through the MOT has made it to weak

I have a 1330 with a 276, Aldon yellow and custom needle and it has no issues getting through the MOT when set up.

You dont mention what distributor you have? a standard one wont have the right advance curve.

Kernow,Oh yeah,i remember you saying before about the dizzy. Its the 65d electronic ignition, was using a ballast coil, but found out this was wrong type so swapped to non ballast coil black/red type

As for the needle i am unsure, never had it apart, all engine work was previous owners doing. It does seem now to be sucking more air by the sounds of the carb, using a K&n since passing the Mot.

Blacktulip,Not tried the choke,i guess that will tell me if its running weak,if it does make a difference.

The 65, factory electronic, dizzy (with the black box on the side) uses its own spec of coil - GCL

That's the coil I now have. The original fitted was wrong.
So can i get the dizzy advance curve modified at a place like H&M in Dudley I think it was,if that's what's needed.

Yes the choke out will tell if you are running lean. If so you can adjust the mixture.

That's a reasonable start, but if the choke works it doesn't absolutely mean  running lean is the underlying cause.

Rather like a stopped clock, the timing with pretty much any dizzy can be adjusted to give the correct advance at at least one point, so I doubt it's your issue with pulling away.

It might be the vac advance or an air leak / worn throttle spindle, these are worse when the throttle is nearly closed.

I could not tell you bud,the previous owner had it all rebuilt..

Today i took the K&N off, and as i had cleaned it before the Mot,it then seemed to be sucking more air,as you could really here it inside the cabin,so i re-oiled it and refitted, and the issue now seems to have gone, also with the sucking noise.I either had not located the filter back properly or the proper oil has done the trick?

Made it richer by oiling the filter so your problem seems to be weak mixture, whats it set to at idle? have you done the lifting pin test? weak stalls/falters, rich revs up and stays there, ok engine revs a bit and resettles. Be interested to know what needles in it now?

Air filter off and use a small screwdriver to lift the piston

Hi Kernow. It's stalling when lifting the piston slightly. I suppose i can richen it now,but come mot time I will have to mess with the mixture once again. Any permanent solution you can recommend?
