I was curious how many of 'my model' mini's are still on the road. I have a 1978 Mini 1000 Saloon.

So, I checked out the website and was quite shocked by the clear decline of our beloved classic;

These figures are not always accurate, it depends what the dealer wrote down at the time the car was sold. For example, my daily has the make and model all on one line of the log book, so if you check it, it's the only one ever made! Lol R@REOMG£££

Official DVLA figures for the Classic Mini were published back in the November 2010 issue of Mini Magazine:-

Barely 30,000 Mini's left on the road 2010
UK Statistics:
63,592 Classic Minis still registered in UK on October 1st 2010
of which:
32,847 were taxed,
30,745 on SORN

(Wolseley Hornet and Riley Elf derivatives were not included)

5,505,874 Total Mini's produced 1959-2000
1,581,887 = UK sales (28.7%)
3,923,987 = Rest of world (71.3%)

Although I agree that the way they are counted is often flawed at the same time if every method of recording had a similar decline as the chart Jedi posted it shows the direction they are going, we will start to see early cars increase as 80s cars get put onto mk1 and mk2 vin plates but also more of the sorn cars genuinely returned with new heritage shells or weldathons completed as values rise and make the work worthwhile imo.
