My tank reads 3/4 when totally full, I havent tested to see if its the gauge or the sender yet but presuming its the sender how empty does it need to be without pouring petrol in the boot on removal? Also all the senders are pre 92 or spi/mpi but my car is a 1995 (built 94) 1275 carb so do we think longbridge fitted an spi tank as it's an spi body or will a carb car have the early sender? Good old minis, lol, Ta

Ok ive just joined the shrouded lug to the metal ring and tge gauge reads full to the brim, disconnected nothing, connected 3/4 with a full tank so I'm happy its the sender or float, might just need the arm bending?

Syphon the tank off first do we think? And are all the gasket/retainer rings the same size? If so I'll try bending the arm first and check the float isn't full of fuel before buying a new sender unit. 100 miles between fills is becoming a bit of a pain!

8/94 stamped on that white sticker, looking on minispares it looks like an early style tank as it hasn't got the hole on the top edge, only just noticed the grey thing on top, non return valve, breather or filter?

Just a bit of info I can offer on u recent rebuild I refurbished my tank and it turned out the sender unit arm was to long and fouled on the tank
I told this to minispares at potters bar and they were pleased I pointed it out and were unaware
Wether they rectified it or not I don't know

Don't worry so much about full readings, its the accuracy of empty that you want to bend the arm to achieve.

Use a flashlight through the filler neck to locate the sending unit hole on the inside of the tank.  As soon as the level of fuel is below the hole you can remove the sender.

I thought after about 1991 all cars used the later Z-bent arm regardless of injected or not because they only used one tank design.  Once you remove the sender you will know for sure what is inside the tank.

Thanks guys ,good idea about the empty rather than full too, it reads empty after using 3 gallon right now so that is a bit of a pain, I wonder if it just wants rotating a bit but I will get a new ring and clamp set first before messing just in case, I haven't tried looking inside but it has the unleaded restrictor neck so I might struggle but I will go and have a peek, Ta.

See this has the bend but is listed for injection cars after 92, mine being a very late Carb leaves me as a 1994 built car but not injected.

Then the straight one cars upto 92 so I think the best bet is to see if it just needs adjusting or at least straight/bent will give me my answer regarding which parts bin they raided, Lol.
