HI all...

Just wondering what people are using for fuel caps? I have the replacement standard non locking one's but they leak fuel onto the car...

I have read that others have the same problem but I wanted to change them and was wondering which way to go depending on whats being used and results... I like the look of the Aston/Monza type caps....

I doubt I can stop the leak totally though...

Cheers

Me too, my mot man wont allow anything non locking either, maybe he's wrong but it's easier to just agree than have him poke around too much :-D

just make sure the wee flat tabs on the filler neck end / face aren't bent out a bit as that could cause the cap not to seal properly around it's diameter.

That's a new one on me - always had a  non locking cap on my mk1 and it's never been mentioned at various MOT places

He is right http://www.mot-test....st/fuel-system/ I had a fail on a transit with one of the temporary ones, it is in fact why they are only classed as temporary if memory serves me, when it became law I dont know and I suspect your mk1 is OK without?, he said it was to stop the fuel spilling out if the car turned over but we had a 2008 Focus with the capless system which he said passes because the flap locks, "but the flap would be unlocked if it tipped over".....I said then decided to cut my losses as a pass was looking good so far :-)

Same as all introduced regs, you only need to comply if the regulation is older than your car. The other issue is whether the cap is vented or not ( that's the roll over issue, isn't locking something to do with filling with the engine running?). That is one to watch with Minis, most had  sealed caps & vent pipes before it was required, but vans and estates need a vented cap and plenty of aftermarket locking caps were vented so they'd be a universal fit.

Anyone know which was the 1st Mini to have a locking cap as original eqpt? Suprisingly late on I reckon.

Ok cool...

I was thinking something like this...

http://www.coopercar...-left-hand.html

http://www.minispare...px|Back to shop

My tanks are both vented and not sure if the "mot" thing is an issue here... In Western Australia, we do not need annual inspections so once licensed, that's it...

Be nice not to have so much fuel leak after I have put fuel in... I dont fill the tanks up to full but going into corners hard and having a bit of fun after fueling, they leak a bit....

Cheers
