You need a relay and two fuses. Run a signal lead from a power source via a 5 amp fuse to the dash switch and thence to the relay.

Run a power lead from a power source to a 8 amp fuse and thence to the relay 'power-in' terminal.

Run a power lead from the relay 'power-out' terminal to the fan.

Run an earth lead from the relay earth terminal to earth and another earth from the fan earth terminal to earth.

Use the correct cable sizes to suit the power figures supplied with the fan.

12v 40 amp 4 terminal type Relay

Quoting Cooperman above

Run a signal lead 0.5mm 16/0.20mm Thin Wall Cable Nominal Current Rating: 11.0 amps from a power source via a 5 amp fuse to the dash switch and thence to the relay.  TERMINAL 86

Run a power lead 2.0mm 28/0.30mm Thin Wall Cable.Nominal Current Rating: 25.0 amps from a power source to a 8 amp fuse and thence to the relay 'power-in' terminal. TERMINAL 30

Run a power lead 2.0mm 28/0.30mm Thin Wall Cable.Nominal Current Rating: 25.0 amps from the relay 'power-out' terminal to the fan. TERMINAL 87

Run an earth lead 0.5mm 16/0.20mm Thin Wall Cable Nominal Current Rating: 11.0 amps from the relay earth terminal TERMINAL 85 to earth and another earth from the fan earth terminal to earth.

Thicker wire gives less volt drop to the fan and the earths will be blacks, use what colour you fancy for terminal 30 and out on 87 to the fan but the standard Fan Colour feed was Black/orange when used from fan to thermo switch

It is good to have a 'proper' electrical specialist on here Dave. I'm a mechanical engineer and tend to over-simplify electrical stuff :D .
