Hi peeps!

Turns out it was running way too much advance when it ran well, and was way retarded when it started fine ( does this sentence make sense?)

Timed in @ 6° and it ran quite smooth ( need to fiddle with the mixture a bit more) . Didn't get too hot now ( normal temperature on the gauge) and oil pressure was around 45 psi at 2K rpm no ( wich I think is good?)

Feels a bit better already. Although the engine did cut out suddenly, but that was due to the coil comming loose ;p

cheers

Good to hear you're making progress. Is the 6 degrees static or idle advance?

May also be worth checking the primary spring in the dizzy, you may benefit from changing to a lighter spring.

Its on idle ( @ 1000 rpm) should it be a bit more on idle? ( vac disconnected)?

Glad it is working out okay would've been so harsh to take the engine out.. :P

Each car is different, but 6 deg on idle sounds like very little advance for 1275 even when running 10.3:1 CR.

I'm running a 1293 which is on 9.7:1 CR, 190psi cranking pressure, 12 deg static, 10x2 deg mech advance and vacuum. This one is probably running about 15 deg advance at idle as it has a very light primary spring. And no pinking under load.

And the 1330 has about 10.5:1 CR, 225psi cranking pressure, 8 deg static, 12x2 deg mech advance and vacuum.

Both running using MD266 cam.

Thanks. The engine has now 60 psi cold idle oil pressure, isnt that a bit low for a rebuilt engine?

That sounds fine if the tickover revs are around 750 to 800 rpm.

Dusky - what's your idle oil pressure with the engine properly hot, like after a ten+ mile run along your local motorway?

That is more critical than the oil pressure with a cold motor.

Does not look pretty, but you're probably not losing much cooling capacity from a few bent fins. As long as it's not leaking I would straighten out the gills and refit.

And look elsewhere for reasons for overheating, such as incorrect ignition timing or mixture.

What thermostat are you running?

RUnning a 82° thermostat, don't know how to test it opens?

Mixture needs setting again now ( changed to a hif) but ignition timing is set to 10° static now ( aldon yellow)

cheers
