It's been a long long time since I've pulled an engine from a remote shift car, and cannot remember.
What is involved to release/remove the shifter from the gearbox before engine removal? ( I am asumming it needs removing )
Thanks

Lol...ok man of few words
Is there any fiddling with the actual shift mechanism.....does it need to be released at the shifter (driver) end? Does the engine need to be lifted a little to get at the "4 bolts"?
At what point are the drive couplings released/removed?

Gottcha....same as rod shift...but a little more as I recall.
Nothing needing to be undone on the inside of the shifter at the diff?

No nothing else at the diff end apart from the 4 bolts.
As blacktulip says you will need to tilt the engine back a fair old way so the tail of the diff that the remote housing bolts to, misses the subframe rear section and the bulkhead!!!
Cheers, Steve.

But only on the S if the info from Cooperman is correct. But like I said I have not yet found this mythical 5th bolt.So maybe 5 bolts!

But if we want to go off on a tangent there could be 8 bolts if the 1100/1300 variant of the gearbox was used.
Here is a topic we had about some of the holes in the remote housing.

You can still remove the ADO Type remote with 4 bolts and leave the rubber sandwich plate on.
I always remove the rear mount too and remove the remote shift totally as the rear mount can shear if left unsupported. so 4 bolts + 1 nut
