Engine Out Or Subframe Drop?

As title really, I'm looking to remove my engine and was wondering which way was easier?
My neighbour used to be into his minis and swears by dropping the subframe but posts I've read seem to say the opposite, I don't have an engine hoist but could get some hands round for either way. If I dropped the subframe I'd replace all the mounts as their starting to wear a bit and it would give me more access to cleaning and rust proofing the subframe.
Also on a side note, anything to look out for if powerwashing the engine once it's out apart from covering electrics?
Thanks in advance!

really personal preference. Id always engine out the top. I have a crane now but have done it with a scaffold pole, some rope and a friend before now without major issue.

I once dropped the front sub-frame to get the engine out. That was in 1969 - never again! Everything has to be undone - fuel lines, brake lines, steering rack ends, dampers, battery lead, sub-frame mounts, complete exhaust system, etc.
It is so simple to take the engine out from the top.

Totally agree with Cooperman! I guess its a personal preference, but having tried both, I'll never be dropping a subframe again to remove the engine. ![]()

It is a personal preference thing as said. Both have their good and bad points, also an engine crane/hoist really should be a must, otherwise there's a good chance of something or someone getting damaged. Maybe hire one or pool resources with local car nuts, buy one between you.
