I've got to ask, as I know nothing about cars and need a specific answer to my specific problem which I haven't found online :(

I'm getting a rubbing noise from the front of my Mini. It only really occurs when accelerating or maintaining a speed. It's coming from the front somewhere, most likely wheels as the rubbing slows with the wheels. It's not a constant sound, only really makes noise half the time. It does not make a sound when turning.

I'm not certain, but it could be related to a nasty bump I had a few weeks ago. I hit a poorly installed grid at 40mph, front-left wheel took the brunt.

Any advice would help (nice advice! I know i shouldn't own a mini)

No, all standard. It's a recent development. It doesn't seem possible that the tires are rubbing on the arches

A bent tie bar could cause all sorts of wheel misalignment issues depending on how it bent, or even if the mounting tab the tie bar bolts through on the subframe broke where it is welded on. Any other issues such as wheel wobble, steering wheel pointing in a different direction, pulling to one side ?

Even if you know little about cars, you can have a look and compare sides. If something is broken then you may still spot it as being different from the 'good' side.

You know, it does feel like it's pulling to one side sometimes. I have had a look at the wheels and stuff and both sides look the same, other than a bit of slimy gunk on one side

It'd be very hard to see anything actually bent.

Get the tracking checked

The noise has magically disappeared after about 2 weeks. Good?

Maybe just a stone or something stuck behind the brake disc? It's now stopped because it's fallen out.
