1988 Austin Mini ‘Red Hot’
Sad sale of my unfinished mini project – I just don’t have the time to finish and want to pass it onto someone else. It was my intention to turn it into a 60’s race replica, but the project is at a point where the new owner can make their mark on it. The work carried out has been done to a very good standard and my intention was to spend a lot of money without cutting any corners.
The previous owners did the following work:
- New rear subframe, rear Monroe shocks and refurbed rear suspension and brakes
- New rear valance and closing plates, new battery box and rear floor under-seal
I then purchased the car and sent it off to a local BMC restoration specialist who carried out the following body work for me using genuine heritage panels (apart from a Mini Sport front panel which fits very well):
- Re-skin drivers door (passenger door good, needs small repair at A-pillar)
- New drivers inner/outer sills/front floor quarter
- New drivers door step and hinge panel
- New drivers A-panel
- New full scuttle and closing plates
- New drivers door jam flitch panel
- New drivers wing
- New front panel
I’ve also refurbed a lot of parts (see pic) such as brackets/alternator (untested)/fuel tank etc.
Supplied with the car are:
- All the panels to finish as per the photo. Passengers front floor quarter/door hinge and step, door jam/flitch panel, inner and outer sill section and passengers wing (not fixed, though it looks like it in the pics).
- Original engine/gearbox (covered 73k according to the clocks) which ran/selected all gears before being removed. No carb or inlet/exhaust manifold
- Bare powder coated front subframe
- Any other parts stripped off will come with the car (seatbelts/ducting/glass/gear linkage etc)
The car doesn’t come with front screen (broke upon removal) or interior as I planned to replace it all. I have the V5 document in my name.
As well as the remaining panels requiring welding, the car will need small repairs to the roof gutter edge (it’s the outer edge which is pretty straight forward). The boot needs a small repair along the bottom edge. Some of the unplated/coated spare panels have some surface rust on them but it’s superficial and will clean up easily.
Someone will get a bargain and a solid base project to create a very nice car from. Car is located in Camberley, Surrey.
Asking price is £1000 o.n.o. This project owes me £1700 as it stands.
