Hi there.

I'm Andreas, 22 years old and based in Copenhagen. I've been lurking on the forum for a while and found it to be a great resource for all things Mini!

I'm looking into buying a classic Mini as my first car. Besides the actual car I'm intrigued by the cheap insurance, taxes and parts.

Just a few hours ago I went looking at a Mini and drove it for the first time.

This one:

http://www.dba.dk/ro.../id-1015856506/

It's a 1992 Rover Mini Cooper. Any thoughts and tips based on the model, year and the pictures are greatly appreciated! Anything I should direct my attention towards?

It was very fun to drive and looked the part. It had been in a flooded garage, but afterwards been thoroughly restored, so the only real issue was a few rusty spots on the bottom of the driver's door and the panel right in front of the door, just below the scuttle panel. Boot, floor, sills and front/back seemed rust free.

Looking forward to learning more about Minis on here. Hopefully I'll soon have my own Mini to ask lots of questions about! :proud:

Rust is the biggest problem on Minis so its best to buy the best body wise you can afford and get the rust spots sorted and fill it full of rust proofing like waxoyl/ Ensis Rostoil and they are many more recommended here on the forum, Mechanicals are DIY friendly with a workshop manual and help here, is that one a carburettor model or the first injection? Carburettor models are easier for DIY maintenance

It's a carburator model. The seller told me he has had the entire underside rust-proofed. He also offered to repair the rust before I buy. He is a member of a Mini club and thus has contacts who can fix stuff cheaply. If the model and year is okay and everything looks good to the knowledgable people on here I might go for it!

That looks like a nice Mini! I too live in Copenhagen, so we could go for a drive someday!

There is a great mechanic north of Copenhagen who I've been using for a good while. Sent me a PM if you want some info on him.

Are you planning to drive the car all year or will it be stored during the winter?

I'm planning to store it for the winter. Probably drive it from april to september or something like that, depending on the weather.

That's the same I plan with my Mini. From around April to medio October depending on the weather.

My Mini has some smaller rust issues (I'll update on my blog and in another thread), and rain, snow, winter and salt is not good care for a Mini :)
