hi guys, still having trouble getting power from the coil, car is a mini 1000 76 model running std points.

am i right in thinking i should be able to get power out of the coil regardless of the dizzy because its before it? i have power to the coil but nothing out of it when turning.  i have checked the coil on my dads capri, it ran fine?

please help or its going to end up on ebay ;(

Change it, there will be a fault in the coil

test the voltage on the + terminal on your year car it should be 12v, if you have this with the ignition turned on then ensure you have the points set correctly to 15thou, if you crank the car over and have no spark from the coil king lead held 1/4inch from earth, then put a temp wire on the coil - and flash this to earth the coil should produce a spark, if it then does suspect the condenser

Even if it can run a Capri? Lol.

Could be points, condenser, rotor arm, dizzy cap, HT king lead from the coil to the dizzy cap, bad connection to the coil + - or both. Leads in the right order? We have all done it!

Yes and no.  By power I assume you mean voltage.

With the ignition on....

If the points are closed you will measure zero volts between coil (-) and earth.

If the points are open you will measure battery voltage between coil (-) and earth.

Kernow suggested things to check.  Just keep in mind when making voltage checks that the points are a switch to earth so you will measure different voltages depending on whether the points are opened or closed.
