Hi there,

Stupid question but... I was told by a friend that my steering rack felt like it had some play in it as his mini would steer a lot sharper with the same amount of turning.
However when I turn the steering wheel ever so slightly I can see it does steer the wheels slightly, there doesn't seem to appear to be any play in-between.

Did some minis have different ratios of movement for the steering or am I just being a bit thick?
Should I look into seeing if the u bolts need tightening?

The steering wheel/column can move up and down. Is this not secured properly or is it just a mini thing?

I don't have a lot of knowledge (as it shows) on this subject so I plan to get it looked at properly but the steering has felt like this for many miles but I feel I need to be sure that it's alright.
Thanks in advance

Someone who knows exactly what they are talking about is bound to correct me on this, but I think there was a difference between mk1 steering items and later models. I think it was the steering arm. I don't know if this would have an effect on turning performance, but it certainly might be some explanation?

I could be, and probably am, very wrong on this, but it's some form of explanation for now. :P

Choice of tyre make & inflation pressure can have an effect on precision of the steering, as well as roadholding. If there's no slack in the steering & the tracking / geometry is ok, I wouldn't worry.
