Hi,

I'm going to fit an inline filter. Whats the advisable particle size to filter? Some go for 20 micron but you can go down to something like 8 micron. I would imagine the smaller particle size the more restricted the flow is, so is there a flow requirement for a 1275 with a single carb?

I have never thought about the particle size.  Your goal is to prevent debris from interfering with the operation of the float valve or blocking the main jet.  Either filter you found will work fine at these tasks.  As you said, the finer the filter, the more it will restrict flow.  However, I don't think this will make any difference on a street car.

I have always used the inexpensive paper filters that used to be common on old air-cooled VWs.  I like translucent filter housings so you can examine how dirty the filter element is becoming.

+1 for the cheap paper filters in clear plastic housing. Then you can see if they are getting discoloured by rubbish and change accordingly.

You can often get these for about £1 each at shows.
