Can anyone tell me when the Mk1 Minis changed over from the early ribbed design to the one pictured? I'm trying to determine if the one on my car is from a later build. My car is a 1961 model built in September 1960.

thanks

Sorry to hi jack the thread, but I've always wondered what the two holes in the number plate recess are for on mk1/2 boot lids (just above the cable in the photo are for)

Pretty sure they are for to little rubbers so that the number plate hanger doesn't hit the paint.

thank you - I never had reason to doubt the one on the car wasn't correct until I was told recently the very early ones were ribbed (he probably meant double skinned) to accommodate the fitted luggage with lid down

Double skinned boot lid was introduced in early 1967 so you can get a Mk 1 with that boot lid. The double skin lasted until early 1970 so you can also get a double skinned Mk 3 boot lid.
