The bonnet on my mini has a small vent hole on it.

The bonnet itself doesn't seem to fit properly I wondered if it was because it was the wrong type for my mini.

I wondered if someone knows what type of bonnet this is, mk1, mk2, mk3 etc?

Sorry for the silly question, thanks

After market bonnets never seam to fit properly also if the front end has been replaced at some point and aligned with a different bonnet and since then the bonnet has been replaced the fitting will not be great , had the same issue and now going back to original bonnet as it fits perfect

bonnet is roundnose mk2 on..... not sure what your vent is - presuming a ram pipe - but that would have made more sense on the other side!

Almost impossible to tell whether yours is a gen or aftermarket but all can be made to fit fairly decently - from pic it looks like the catch pin (in the bonnet itself) needs tightening up a bit..... try it - but if it doesn't latch positively - then no matter how much better it looks then go back! - a bonnet flying up is not funny!!!

It's the right type of bonnet. It may be that it's either a second hand one or an aftermarket "pattern" bonnet. The latter are notoriously bad for fitting badly. Do you have any pictures of the inside of the bonnet, showing the hinges and that area?

Cheers for the responses guys, the bonnet is what came with the car when I bought it and if I'm honest I'm not a fan of the vent pipe. Might replace the entire bonnet.

Assuming my Mayfair would need a mk3 onwards? Cheers

The other thing to bare in mind is that your Mini is 30 years old now so may well have had panels replaced in the past.

If the front end has been renewed, the fitter may not have taken the time needed to align the panels well which will always result in the panel gaps and fit being poor.

As Matt has said though, the bonnet looks to be the correct type although it does appear someone has cut a bit out to make a vent although obviously that is nothing to do with the fit.

There isn't a huge amount you can do really without cutting it about although you may be able to achieve a better fit by playing about with the alignment of the bonnet.

I have merged together the two topics now.

Both were the same but in different sub forums.
