The number 3.44 is the ratio of turns between the crown wheel and pinion. 3.44:1 for instance.
So count up the number of teeth on the crown wheel, and the same on the pinion and then that will give you the ratio.
Alternatively I think the teeth numbers are sometimes stamped on the gears, saves you counting.
Obviously you will have to strip off the diff casing to get to the internal components to check this.

Got a rev counter? Just see what revs you're doing at a satnav proven speed, e.g at 3000 revs in 4th. Using guessworks calculator you'll be able to see what ratio it has
