Not sure is this is the right board to put it on but..

Well I was driving home from work the other day and the bolts on my rear passenger side wheel came loose and well..50mph and THUNK wheel goes racing away. Well I've now got the car re-wheeled and got the backing plate hammered clear of the drum, but I checked the bearing and there was a few degrees of give when grasping the wheel at 12 and 6, though not at 3 and 9, I'm talking a tiny ammount, the outer edge of the tyre was moving maybe 2mm if that. Is that an indication of the bearing being messed up or could it be something else?

If it is the bearing is this available from regular retail outlets such as Halfords or Central Auto Supplies or do I have to go to Minisport/minispares etc.

If its the wheel bearing, itdd be moving @ 3 and 9 too, 12 and 6 only suggests ball joints

These no ball joins on the rear, leave it till you pop over tomorrow and I’ll have a look for ya.

Back the handbrake adjuster right off and try the test again. If it is the wheel bearing the play should be in all directions as has been said but the brake shoes can take up the play horizontally. If there really is play in only one direction at the rear it could point to real problems, the rear suspension doesn't work like that!

Obviously re-adjust the handbrake before using the car or dropping it back to the floor.
