They can be awkard because you need to get them past the spring clip. nothing a tap with a hammer shouldn''t sort out.

On a recent engine swap we couldn't get the pot joints to go in, no matter how hard we tried. Removed the little circular clip to find it was somewhat oval... re shaped it to a near circle and refitted and the pot joint went on with the first hammer tap.... and locked in place...

Try that....
Carl.

Wind the nut on the end of the driveshaft so it is perfectly level with the end of the shaft.........take a copper mallet......sharp smack and it should be in !!!

Its like a jubilee clip, it means so you have something to knock the hammer against to get it in. the way i have always done it is to offer up the whole assembly support in on blocks etc and then place a wooden block on the hub the wack that with the lump hammer until it goes in. The ideal way is to remove the end of the driveshaft from the pot joint and then hit that directly. I did this (as its awkward to get a good swing) by placing a series of blocks of wood that emerged through the hole in the subframe, and then swinging the hammer round, it will go in like this.

have you made sure the spline ion the joint are aligned with the output shaft? The shaft should be "entered" in the joint? If the wire clip is in good condition, then a sharp tap with a hammer on the end of the cv will engage it (or swing the engine across if it's on engine crane)
