I think the widest you will get is 165 .. and they are going to be horribly stretched on 7" rims.

Ideally you need closer to 195/205 but I don't think anyone makes those now.

I'd think twice about that rim size .. handling could be pretty nasty!

The widest tyre in a 12" with a low profile is a 165/60 x 12. As above, a 7" rim is too wide for that tyre. The only tyre which will fit that rim is a racing tyre and that would not be road legal. 6" is the widest you ever need go for road use, although for racing where very soft slicks are available it is different.

For a 165 the optimum width is 5" on any car. Stretched tyres are not only in contravention of construction & use regulations, they are unsafe.

Stretched tyres also means when you clip the kerb .. that noise you hear is a bit more of your expensive alloy wheel disappearing ...

They have to be one of the daftest car mod anyone could have thought of ...

If you can find any 175x12 tyres, go for them (not sure I've ever seen 185s or over in 12s now) ... I've got some 165s on 13x6 and they look too narrow. Remember it's only a small patch of rubber at each corner that holds you on the road and anything that reduces that has got to be a problem.

There are no 175 x 12 tyres with the required low profile. You would need something like 175/55 x 12 to get the correct rolling radius and to clear the rear radius arm.
