hi all, just need to confirm the standard length of tie rods on my mini.fitted new heavy duty adjustable  ones yesterday along with hi-los etc,

basically i measured the oringinal length to the centre of the bolt hole to the flat front face of the washer and it was nowhere near 14.250'.its more like 14.340 but will get accurate measurements today and let you know.

the reason ive started this thread is because theres conflicting info on this length.some state 14.25 to the edge of the hole.

so is it me or do tie rods stretch too.

as i said i will get accurate measurements today and forward them to you.

measured the tie rods today with an 8mm dowel and a vernier caliper which we use for very accurate work and has been checked to within 1/1000' guys,

the length from the outside edge of the hole to the welded spacer is 14.640'.

from the inside edge of the hole to the welded spacer is 14.325'.

making the centre of the hole to the welded washer 14.4825'.

these dimensions were taken from the existing solid tie rods which havent been on very long.the two did vary by about .015'.

if im wrong then please correct me as im a bit confused as dimensions ive read on this forum and other forums vary.

hope this all makes sense, cheers guys.

But what does it matter? Why do you need to know?

It is interesting but pointless.

I guess the correct length depends on how straight your Mini is...

It all depends on everything else. If your suspension is going to be at original settings then measure the originals as that will be a good guide.

But if anything not standard. Ride height or camber then no measurement will realy help.

When going adjustable you will be seeing it up two times. First time to get it ok for first use and then when settled if you have replaced the rubbers.

Just the way it is.

Yes but if you are putting new adjustable on then its a good starting point if they are set to the same length.

I think its worthwhile.

Lay the old one next to the new one, adjust the new one until the length are the same. Fit the new one, easy peasy

This is what I did. I just wanted a starting point for set up; it can be adjusted once settled in. :)
