Afternoon all,

I’m after a bit of advice please. I have an MPi and managed to scrape my flexi-pipe up my girlfriends driveway yet again. It’s been an advisory for gas leak on my past two MOT’s so I think it’s about time I had it replaced.

Question is, what do I do…

I can replace the part that is bust (manifold back to CAT) for about £55. First question is, is this a job I can do myself fairly easily? On an MPi can you easily get to the manifold to link pipe connection bolts?

Or, I can get a new manifold and flexi-pipe for somewhere between £100 and £150. Second question is, what manifold would be a good choice (too many options! Small bore, large bore etc),  and how much of a performance increase am I likely to get/feel with a standard 1275? I’m open to getting a new Cat-back section as well if this is needed for a freer flowing system.

Unfortunately I don’t know enough about exhaust systems to make a decent judgement myself, so please educate / direct me!

Cheers,

Pete

MPI so 1996 on, a change of exhaust alone on a standard MPi is unlikely to give very much of a increase, if any

I put this on mine

there is a more spi specific model but this one came up used at a reasonable price

people say good things about the Maniflow - you never seem to hear a bad report about them

and yes you can do the job yourself but getting under a mini is not easy

you need to put lots of degripper type oil on the nuts and bolts for many days prior

to dissassembly as they are usually rusted solid (worst case is having to grind them off)

the manifold is not so easy to access and again could be hard to break loose

Yeah it's a '98.

Cheers for your replies, I'll take a look at just getting the original flexipipe. I've got access to an inspection pit, so if I can get underneath it, i'll see how hard it is to fit myself.
