Hi, I've taken a steering arm off my '89. I believe it's cast iron(?) so I'm a tad concerned over simply straightening it out because of the material's properties. Will I have to purchase a new one or can it be salvaged? Cheers

New Arms aren't expensive and if it is bent, it could be fatigued.
I'd suggest if replacing the Arm, to also replace the Hollow Dowels and the Bolts too. The Bolts stretch and while can feel tight can still be loose.
I have a photo I'll post up shortly of an Arm (they are on a different PC).
In the mean time, here's some measurements;-

How in the world was that bent? I can only imagine the condition of a couple other bits if that was bent due to hitting a curb (Kerb) or such.

Yeah I believe it is part 14? Where the trackrod end attaches to. I'm surprised it has bent and not sheered to be honest. When compared to the other side the three holes for the bolts don't seem to sit on the same axis ie. they don't all face the same way.

I'd replace it if it is bent ... but that would indicate some poor treatment or impact damage.

Not sure what you mean by holes not facing the same way. The arms are 'bent' as standard so that the inner wheel turns more than the outer to follow a tighter path - but the arms should still be a mirror image of each other. Any photos would be usedful.

If you've managed to bend the steering arm, I'd be replacing the rack As well. The track rods would most likely bend where they go into the track rod ends long before you bend the arm
