New Wiring Loom Advice Needed

Best Answer alchall , 29 June 2015 - 08:19 AM

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your responses, South Lakes Mini's can supply the right one, albeit on a long lead time which is fine for me so I've placed an order with them.

Cheers.....

Hi,

I'm looking for a bit of advice as I'm trying to source a new main loom for my SPI sprite.....

It was built some time in 1994 and as far as I can tell based on my VIN number part number YMC121660 should be the correct loom, however this appears to be no longer available. Part number YMC11986 however does appear to be available and although it appears to be for earlier models  I can’t tell what (if any) differences there are between these two looms from any description I can find anywhere in the interweb or the wiring diagrams in the Haynes manual (which seem to suggest there should be no difference), I am wondering if YMC11986 is likely to be suitable or not, either as it is or with some simple modification.

If it helps I definitely have dim dip but no alarm or immobiliser (it is possible that it had an alarm that was removed at some point in it’s past but I can’t find evidence of this), it also has in-line fuses that were up against the bulkhead in the engine bay and also behind the dash (the latter I assume were for the headlights), it did have a set of 4 spade fuses but these were clearly spliced in in place of the glass fuses and is one of a number of area’s of the original loom that had been butchered by a previous owner (this being part of the reason why I’m looking to replace it, the other being my ham fisted means of removing it from the car causing further damage).

Also the ECU has a single socket (I'm aware that there is a separate harness that connects the main loom to the ECU but thought it may be relevant to mention here).

Hope somebody can offer some help here so I don't go wasting money on something that's the wrong part.

Thanks.

Al.

Sometimes you might find the harness you need isn't available but another supersedes it because it has all the correct wires plus extras.

Regarding the inline fuses, I replaced them with inline blade fuse holders and fitted Narva blade fuse auto reset circuit breakers.
