I'm hoping someone could help me...I bought a Mini today (57 plate) from a private seller. When turning off the engine the fan stays on for about 5-10 minutes and this happens even if this engine has been on for only 30 seconds. What could this problem be and is it expensive? The car runs fine and works perfectly but just worried about the fan. My friend has an 07 Mini and did the same journey as me today and when parking behind me, her car wasn't doing the same so it has me a bit worried. If anyone could help I'd be very grateful!

Wrong forum buddy this forum is for the old usually rusty variety. You need to get the fault codes read could be something daft like coolant temperature sensor. Or worse it's getting really hot really quickly.

I'm not familiar with your number plate system but I,m assuming its a 07 Model too, which i am also not real familiar with. But it could be checked by scan tool to see why. If ii uses same fan for a/c condensor it could also be an a/c problem. I suggest that you get it scanned before getting too concerned, it may just be a minor glitch and not too much of a drama. Modern cars use various sensors with which the ECU computes its functions, if one is faulty it usually brings the ECL on, so if yours isn't coming on That in its self is a good thing. Get it scanned and go from there.

+1 for both the answers above, a scan of the ECU would be a good start point.

As dyshipfakta says, this forum is really aimed at the mini's that fall apart from rust before they breakdown (the pre-BMW ones).  You may be able to get some more detailed advice at the Mini2 Forum: http://www.mini2.com/

I dont know about BMW Mini's in particular, but this is normal on some cars depending on the temperature of the engine when turned off.
