HI all,

I've got some rust around the numberplate hole on my MPI boot lid. Question is, can I simply cut it out and let a new piece in, or shall I re-skin the lid?

here's a pic:

The rust has 'slightly' gone under the inner metal.

Cheers

If the rest of it's fine I would just cut out that bit and weld a new bit in.

I had similar on mine, it was cheaper and easier to source a second hand one off ebay for a tenner, although I think I got lucky with the price

Mmm like anything mini whats hidden elsewhere. If you are ok with it i would reskin the boot lid. There is always rust under the flanges. If you intend respraying the car then thats what i would do rather than take the chance. However if you are happy just to cut the rust out then go that route. Buying second hand is always a lottery.
