I bought a hif44 to go on my 1380 engine that I'm in the process of installing. The carb came with a ADR needle but I have a BBQ needle out of another carb. What would be best until I get the car tuned.

If your HIF44 came with a ADR needle thats a 0.090 Jet needle , the HIF44 is a 0.100 Jet, the what spec is your 1380? a lot depends on the spec as much as the CC, The BBQ needle is a fair bit weaker then the BDL which was the standard needle for the 72BHP MG Metro

Putting a new HIF44 on in place of the Spi . From experience, can anyone save me a lot of work by recommending a carb needle? The exhaust and everything else is to remain standard with the exception of the distributor.

Standard 1275 cars used a HIF 38 not the HIF 44 that was only fitted to the more powerful MG Metro and that used a BDL.
