Hazard Light And Electrical Issues

My 88 city was stood for nearly 12 months outside and let water in before I bought it.
1. I have replaced the fuse box, but things are still not working. E.g my indicators only come on if I press the fuse with my hand.
2. I replaced the hazard relay next to the wiper motor(the plastic connection was shot, so I wired it directly to the relay). The hazards still won't work and when I press the hazard lights it stops the indicators working.
Thanks
Ian.

If you can only get the indicators to work by pressing on the fuse (New Fuse Box?) in your replacement fuse box it either a bad fuse, bad spring contacts holding the fuse or a bad fuse box where the riveted connection between fuse contacts and the rear terminal if faulty. Your not misleading yourself and also pressing on the terminals also? you could have a terminal which is either corroded or the terminal is only retained on the wire by the plastic sheath, as the wire has fractured off internally or broken. All worth checking.
You can probe the voltage in on the terminals of the fuse box confirming if the spring fuse contacts are live.
hazard light switches are well known for causing problems so worth throwing it on/off several times, you can then slip the switch out and check the feeds in/out with the diagram below, first confirm you have 12v into the hazard flasher unit on the Purple wire and if you want to by-pass the flasher unit join the 2 wire together, this takes the hazard unit out of the circuit on a working car all thats happens then is all the indicators come on and stay on when the Hazard switch is pressed.
Have a look at the full circuit here I posted where i put the wiring colours onto the diagram http://www.theminifo...it-colours-mk4/
If you have a Flasher 2 pin and a Hazard 2 pin unit on the bulkhead near the wiper motor then the diagram can be used.

Thanks for the advice and diagrams. My fuse box is now sorted but still no Hazards, I can't get a reading on any of the wires on the relay below.......My Indicators work fine, until I switch the Hazard switch on.....Then the Indicators stop working.
Thanks again

If you look at the diagram and study the switch contacts you will see when the hazard switch is thrown it breaks the contact putting the indicator open circuit, so thats normal, you need to investigate why you have no feed to the hazard flasher unit, have you checked the line fuses up under the wiper panel behind the carburettor,. once you have 12v to the hazard flasher unit then see if the hazard switch is working.
What was wrong with your fusebox?

The fuse box was croded and dirty wires..... I should have checked.

Its voltmeter time and tracing the circuit confirming where there is power and sorting out where the cable feeding the hazard flasher unit is at fault
