Potential Spi Imobiliser Problem

I'm looking into a buying another mini with a 1275 engine and have come across one that seems to fit the bill. Its a 1996 SPi Sidewalk. I haven't actually seen the car but have spoken to the owner about it. Anyway, he has told me the car runs and drives well, but has an intermittent imobiliser fault. I have put some quotes of what the seller has told me, and was wondering if anyone could tell me how this could be fixed? Is it possible for the imobiliser to be recoded? The last thing I want to do is buy a car that can't be fixed!
"has developed a intermittent immobiliser I have changed battery in key fob and had it function tested, but still has the problem. Looked online and it will need the immobiliser recoding"
and
"The car does run and drive well but as it says on the description it does have problem with the immobiliser which is a bit intermittent but once it's got a new one will be fine
It should be fine to drive it may take a little time to get it started because of the immobiliser"
As I said it's not my car, but I'm interested in buying it. Any help would be appreciated :)

nothing worse than an intermittent fault - you think you fixed it then two weeks later it happens again!!
Some background - The system consists if three items that must be coded together for the car to start - the ECU, the key fobs and the alarm module.
If any of these fail you can buy replacements and with the right equipment re-programme them to work together.
Its not often the ECU or the alarm modules fail, though it does happen, the fobs are a little more fragile and fail more often
If there's a fault with the system then it wont disarm and the car won't even turn over, the quote above suggests that the car is turning over but not starting? Can you confirm this?
If it is indeed turning over but not starting then the problem probably lies elsewhere.

I believe ecu repair specialists can code out the immobiliser so that the ecu can be swapped from car to car easily, maybe worth thinking about then getting an aftermarket alarm fitted.http://www.the-ecu-doctor.co.uk/ http://www.bba-reman...agnostics_tools
