I'm just in the process of de rusting the bottom of both flitch panels, adjacent to the 'A' panel, and the couple of inches of the leading edge of the outer sill.

The sill is very heavily coated with the factory applied anti stone chip coating which has done a very good job of protecting the metalwork but now rust is starting to creep under and I want to remove it to treat the rust.

Any tips on removing it other than brute force? Will paint stripper soften it to make the job easier?

Regards

Mike.

How about softening it with a heat gun and then scrape it off with a sharp scraper?

A heat gun and paint scraper works well but you have to be mindful of the fumes.

I've used a wire wheel on a grinder to great affect but it does make a hell of a mess. A 2" chisel also works well.

I've found a small sharp chisel, about 1/2" one, whilst slow is the easiest when doing it without heat. A heat gun with refuser works OK but don't heat it till it fumes if you're inside, outside or with small fan it's ok.
