Can a 1300 austin inline engine be used in a mini if the gearbox is changed? and would any gearbox fit? Cheers

Not only are there a few parts that would need to be changed over (eg, Crankshaft), but there's also a few machining operations needed too, though if I recall correct, going from In-line to Transverse is simpler than going the other way.

It's easier and usually much cheaper to kick off with the orientated engine that you'd like to end up with.

In regards to Gearboxes that will fit on a 1275 engine, all of the All Syncho Boxes will fit no problems, however only a small few of the 3 Synchro Boxes fit.

The Ital inline has the Oil Filter up  by the distributor.

It would be so complicated and expensive to do as to make it totally pointless when there are so many transverse engines available for not a lot of money.

Sell it to someone to fit in an Austin/Morris/MG with a rear axle ... and use the funds to by a transverse engine. Let me know if you want to do and I'll try help find a buyer :-)
